Cricketers gather at Sir Clyde Walcott's funeral in Barbados

clydewalcott Veteran cricketers will be coming together in Barbados on Saturday for the funeral of Sir Clyde Walcott who is to be buried at Cave Hill, close to the grave of former West Indies teammate Sir Frank Worrell.

Together with Everton Weekes, Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Frank Worrell became famous in the 1950s as the three Ws, and the cemetery overlooks a cricket ground that was named in their honour.

"It is a fitting resting place for Clyde at a ground named in his honour," said his widow, Lady Muriel Walcott.

During his remarkable playing career, Sir Clyde Walcott scored 3,798 runs in 44 Test appearances at an average of 56.68 and in 1955 against Australia he became the first batsman to score five centuries in a single series.

After he retired Sir Clyde Walcott became a regional coach and then after that he took on the role of manager of the West Indies team, and he was in charge of the side when they won the World Cup in 1975 and 1979.
