Cricketer Steve Harmison needs a hernia operation
Test match fast bowler Steve Harmison needs to undergo a hernia operation at some stage this season, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Steve Harmison, 28, has retired from one-day cricket internationals and will not be needed by England until the Test series with India, which starts on 19 July.
The hernia isn't described as serious and a spokesman for the England team said: "It is not currently affecting his bowling."
"He will require surgery at some stage but the timing of it will be decided by the England medical team."
Steve Harmison came back home after a disappointing Ashes campaign, in which he took 10 wickets at a cost of 61 each, and his poor performance was still a worry at Headingley and Old Trafford, although the wickets came more readily at these.
Steve Harmison was well enough to take part on the final day of the fourth Test on Tuesday, it has been reported.
