Cricketer Matthew Hoggard to miss rest of season
Cricketer Matthew Hoggard will miss out on the rest of the season as a precautionary measure against what the England and Wales Cricket Board has called a "minor abdominal strain".
Bowler Matthew Hoggard, 29, who is a key member of the Ashes squad, was injured warming up for Yorkshire's match against Nottingham on Wednesday, and had to miss the match.
A statement from the ECB said: "The injury is not viewed as a serious concern ahead of the Ashes Test series."
And Yorkshire physiotherapist Scott McAllister stressed it was purely a precaution so that Matthew Hoggard would be rested from cricket until travelling to Australia although he did say the bowler had been feeling "some discomfiture" on Friday.
The ECB will re-assess Matthew Hoggard's condition at the beginning of next week.
Matthew Hoggard has a better fitness record than many a cricketer and he is hoping to play his 37th consecutive Test when the Ashes begin in Brisbane on November 23.
