Cricketer Kevin Pietersen doesn't want the one-day captaincy
Cricketer Kevin Pietersen has said he doesn't want to be considered as a candidate for England's one-day captaincy because he doesn't think it's the right time for him to take the job.
Kevin Pietersen, 26, who is ranked the number one batsman in the world, said: "It's something I've thought about long and hard but it's not the right time for me to do it.
"Now is the time for me to be doing team stuff - playing and supporting."
England are announcing their new one-day captain on Friday, and Paul Collingwood is tipped now as favourite to take over from Michael Vaughan.
Kevin Pietersen had been considered a likely choice of captain after Michael Vaughan resigned on Monday, but he is reported to have explained: "At this stage of my career, I've only played 50-odd one-day internationals and 20 or 30 Tests.
"I would be humbled in future to be given the opportunity to captain my country but not now."
