Cricketer Ashley Giles suffers hip problem again
Ashley Giles, who plays cricket for England and Warwickshire, has had a recurrence of a long-standing hip problem and will now have to miss out on the beginning of the new season and faces a race against time to recover well enough in time for England's first Test against West Indies on 17 May.
Ashley Giles, 34, had a medical scan last week and is flying to Colorado in America on Tuesday to see a specialist there about his condition.
Ashley Giles, who had missed most of 2006 with hip and groin problems, said: "I've had some pain. As he was the guy who operated on me last time, I've got faith in him,
Hopefully, he can shed some light on what is going on."
Ashley Giles had had surgery twice and having recovered from that returned to action during England's winter Ashes series, however, very unfortunately he had to return home when his wife was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Ashley Giles was overlooked for the World Cup and was experiencing problems on Warwickshire's pre-season trip to the Caribbean.
Ashley Giles realises his health problem, as well as all the other bad luck, may well affect his career this summer, but he is still putting on a brave face and commented: "Unfortunately, now I've gone back a couple of steps but fingers crossed it's nothing too serious and we can sort it out and get me back on the pitch really quickly."
