Cricketer Andrew Flintoff needs ankle operation
England all round cricketer Andrew Flintoff needs to have an operation on his ankle this weekend and then will be fighting to get fit enough to play for his country this summer.
Andrew Flintoff, who missed the first two Tests against West Indies due to his ankle problem, said he was in pain following a fitness test on Tuesday.
Dr Nick Peirce, who is England and Wales Cricket Board's chief medical officer, explained Andrew Flintoff's condition like this: "Despite intense treatment and rehabilitation with England and Lancashire's medical teams, Andrew's ankle has continued to cause him discomfort when bowling at full capacity.
"As a consequence he will undergo an exploratory arthroscopy on his left ankle over the weekend."
Andrew Flintoff had already had an operation on his ankle in January 2005, but now he is hoping to recover in time for the Test series against India, starting on 19 July at Lord's.
Andrew Flintoff said: "Obviously I'm bitterly disappointed to face another operation on my ankle as I really thought I was making progress with the injury over the past few weeks."
