Colombo bomb blast cancels South Africa's match with Sri Lanka
A fatal bomb blast in Colombo has caused the cancellation of South Africa's opening one-day cricket match with Sri Lanka and now the series hangs in the balance.
Seven people were killed on Monday by the bombing, which took place close to where South Africa and India players are staying.
A Claymore fragmentation mine hit a security forces convoy escorting a Pakistan embassy vehicle around a mile away from the hotels the teams were staying at.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) chief executive Duleep Mendis said the South African team were in contact with their foreign ministry to take a final decision.
"We will have a clear picture later in the day," Duleep Mendis said.
"If the tri-series goes ahead, the match will be played at a later date."
And Brian Basson of Cricket South Africa (CSA) said: "I would like to have guarantees that our players will be safe.
"If I don't get those guarantees I will have no hesitation in withdrawing the squad from Sri Lanka."
