Bowler Daryl Tuffey recalled for World Cup
Although he has been away from the action for two years, cricketer Daryl Tuffey has been recalled by New Zealand in time for the World Cup in the West Indies in March.
Seam bowler Daryl Tuffey, 28, was chosen in preference to Chris Martin and all-rounder Andre Adams and he will be replacing Kyle Mills in the 15-man squad. Kyle Mills is suffering from an injury at present.
Daryl Tuffey last played for New Zealand against Australia in February 2005, however, explaining why he was selected coach John Bracewell said: "We wanted an up front, outswing, new-ball bowler and Daryl fitted the bill."
Daryl Tuffey had been overlooked for so long due to a past shoulder injury, but the selectors are satisfied he has recovered well and is fit to play and John Bracewell added:
"It has been a long journey back for Daryl from such a serious injury, but the selectors have been impressed by his performances (in domestic cricket) and are satisfied he is ready once again to play international cricket."
Daryl Tuffey was happily surprised he was chosen and said:
"I was sitting at home when I got the call. I thought it was a courtesy call to say I had missed out but (chief selector) Richard Hadlee gave me the nod and I was very happy."
