Bennett King resigns as West Indies cricket coach
Australian cricketer Bennett King has reportedly announced his resignation as West Indies cricket coach after the side made their exit from the World Cup.
Bennett King, 42, is now expected to help set up the West Indies academy for the last six months of his contract.
West Indies Cricket Board director Jackie Hendriks is reported to have said: "He gave up his job as coach," but a WICB spokesman responded: "We are unable to comment at this time."
Bennett King had been in charge of the West Indies side since October 2004, although he had recently dropped hints that he was considering leaving and said:
"I've got a family, a wife and three children, who have followed me halfway across the world. I've got to keep their best interests in mind as well."
Bennett King's decision leaves the West Indies Cricket Board with a big problem because they would be without a coach with only 24 days left before they are scheduled to play a Test match at Lord's.
