Batsman Marcus Trescothick to retire from international cricket
England batsman Marcus Trescothick has decided to retire from international cricket.
Marcus Trescothick, 32, suffers from an illness brought on by stress that has made travelling overseas a potential problem for him and so he has concluded that it would be better for him to stop taking part in matches abroad.
Marcus Trescothick explained that he was making his retirement announcement now so England could plan what they would be doing without him as part of the team, and he said: "It is in the best interests of all concerned that the issue is put to rest so the England team can concentrate on moving forward."
Marcus Trescothick last played for England against Pakistan at The Oval in August 2006, then last week, he was due to fly to Dubai with his county team Somerset on a pre-season tour but he withdrew when the team arrived at Heathrow Airport.
Marcus Trescothick explained: "I have tried on numerous occasions to make it back to the international stage and it has proved a lot more difficult than I expected."
