Australia to assess Ricky Ponting's injury
Australia cricket team will be assessing skipper Ricky Ponting's current injury status before deciding on whether he is in or out of the rest of the ICC World Twenty20.
Ricky Ponting, 32, injured a hamstring muscle during Tuesday's loss to Pakistan and the Australian physio Alex Kountouris thought he would have to miss out on the rest of the event, however, a spokesman for the team said: "Ricky has not been ruled out of the tournament yet."
The Australia spokesman added: "His hamstring will be assessed over the next 48 hours and as soon as a decision is made by the medical staff, a statement will be issued."
Alex Kountouris told the press on Tuesday that Ricky Ponting's chance of playing in theTwenty20 was over and said he was even in doubt about Ricky Ponting's fitness for the forthcoming one-day series in India.
Whatever the outcome of the assessment, Ricky Ponting is sure to miss out on Australia's final group game against Sri Lanka in Cape Town on Thursday.
