Arjuna Ranatunga is new Sri Lanka cricket chief
Arjuna Ranatunga has been appointed as the new cricket chief for Sri Lanka and he has sworn to stamp out corruption within the sport on the island.
Arjuna Ranatunga, 44, wants to begin his job with a clean slate and an independent audit will go over the accounts of Sri Lanka Cricket before he takes over.
Arjuna Ranatunga said: "My hands are clean. I will never try to make money out of the game's administration."
And Arjuna Ranatunga thinks that Sri Lankan cricket should be brought up to being a professional sport. At present it is based on an amateur system, and this means that cricketers cannot earn a wage from the game unless they are picked to play for Sri Lanka's national team.
Arjuna Ranatunga became a hero in Sri Lanka after he guided his side to World Cup victory in 1996, and he himself scored the winning run in the final against Australia.
Arjuna Ranatunga takes over from Jayantha Dharmadasa.
