Adam Gilchrist retires from international cricket
Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist says that because of his dropped catch from India's VVS Laxman he has decided to quit playing in international cricket.
Wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, 36, wasn't quick enough in the final Test of Australia's series victory and he said: "That catch - I watched a replay and I just moved really slow. I realised I didn't have the absolute desperation that you need to continue to maintain your standards."
Adam Gilchrist explained that starting a new stage of his life and having new family members meant he wasn't focused so much on the game as he should be and so it made sense to him to quit now.
Adam Gilchrist said he had he spoken to his wife on the night he dropped the catch and told her he would announce his retirement the next day.
Adam Gilchrist isn't leaving cricket completely though because he still intends to play in the forthcoming one-day internationals against India and Sri Lanka and he has also signed up to take part in Twenty20 in the Indian Premier League.
