Rally champ Colin McRae dies in helicopter crash
Motorsport has lost one of its great rally drivers when former World Rally champion Colin McRae, died along with his young son in a helicopter crash, and the tributes are pouring in. Official news of Colin McRae's death was announced at 1255 BST on Sunday.
David Richards, who is Colin McRae's former boss at Subaru, said: "He had a competitive spirit like I've never seen in any other individual in my life."
And David Richards, in tribute to Colin McRae, who was only 39 when he died, added: "He was one of those people who had an extraordinary spirit that you just can't define. It's a terrible loss."
Colin McRae's agent, Jean-Eric Freudiger explained that Colin McRae was the pilot of the helicopter and that all four people on it, including his five-year-old son, Johnny, died in the accident.
Nicky Grist, who has been Colin McRae's co-driver since 1997, said that everyone in the world of motorsport was shocked in shock and deeply saddened by the news.
Colin McRae leaves a wife, Alison, and daughter, Hollie who survive him.
