Ireland stage a round of the World Rally Championship It's a first for Ireland when the country stages a round of the World Rally Championship in November 2007 and this marks the successful conclusion to 18 months' work by Rally Ireland to secure a place in the WRC calendar.
FIA president Max Mosley said the round would bring unique features to the championship and would be the first to run competitive stages cross-border.
Rally Ireland commissioned research, which suggested the WRC could be worth more than £31.6 million to the country's economy and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Peter Hain, said he was looking forward to seeing the benefits the rally would bring.
"As a motorsport fan, I am delighted with this decision made by Max Mosley and the FIA," Peter Hain said.
"Having seen at close hand the impact that Rally Ireland has made to date, I am excited by what hosting a full WRC round will be able to contribute to the economy and the development of social cohesion," Peter Hain added.
