French rally driver Sebastien Loeb wins the Rally Ireland
French rally driver Sebastien Loeb won the Rally Ireland on Sunday.
Sebastien Loeb took full advantage of Marcus Gronholm's accident to win the race and, in so doing, he has gained a six-point lead in the title race with one rally left to go.
Sebastien Loeb's time was three hours one minute 39.2 seconds, 53.4 secs leading Dani Sordo, and with Jari-Matti Latvala in third position.
Marcus Gronholm had been ahead of Sebastien Loeb in the standings, but he lost his place when he crashed his car on Friday.
Sebastien Loeb now has 110 points, compared to Marcus Gronholm's 104, with only the Rally GB, from 30 November-2 December, still to run.
Sebastien Loeb said: "Ten points more for the championship is really important. That could change a lot of things for the championship.
"It was really great to win here, especially with Marcus scoring no points. I knew after the crash of Marcus, it all depended on me."
