Bad weather at Buenos Aires airport stops Rally of Argentina
Bad weather stranded several rally drivers at Buenos Aires airport, and in so doing, caused all the stages of day one of the Rally of Argentina to have to be cancelled.
The super-special stage was held in Buenos Aires on Thursday and the stages for Friday's events were due to be held in Cordoba, however, one of the three planes carrying the rally drivers and race officials was unable to land in Cordoba because of the conditions.
The plane had to go back to Buenos Aires 435 miles away and that is where the drivers got left.
World champion rally driver Sebastien Loeb, who was on one of the planes that did succeed in getting to Cordoba, thought it was a mistake to hold the event so far away from the main rally.
Sebastien Loeb said: "The logistics are a little complex for just one stage which, to my mind, has little to do with the rally,"
And he added: "If super-specials are organised in the region of events for those spectators who can't get out to the stages, so be it. But when they become a priority, I really hope they're worth it."
