Australian motor racing veteran Peter Brock dies

peterbrock Australian motor racing veteran Peter Brock has been killed in a crash in the Targa Rally in Western Australia.

Peter Brock, 61, died when his car went into a tree during the race but his co-driver was taken to hospital in a condition described as stable.

Peter Brock became famous after he won the Bathurst 1000, Australia's premier domestic touring car event, a record nine times during the 1970s and 80s and he went on to carve out a television career after retiring from the circuit in 1997.

Peter Brock also has the record for the most pole positions and race victories since the start of the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1960.

The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport said: "On behalf of the motor sport community, we offer our sincere sympathy to Peter's family and many friends."
