Racing car driver Dario Franchitti goes back to Indycar
Scottish racing driver Dario Franchitti has decided to leave Nascar and go back to IndyCar next year as a replacement for Dan Wheldon at Chip Ganassi Racing.
35-year-old Franchitti claimed the title for the 2007 IndyCar Series championship and the Indianapolis 500, however, he then changed over to Nascar for this year and he said he had really enjoyed his time there but doesn't want to miss out on a new opportunity.
In October 2007 Franchitti said he was becoming part of Nascar's elite Sprint Cup but then due to an injured ankle in April he was forced to miss five races and the best result he could come up with was a disappointing 22nd place.
Then if that wasn't bad enough, in July he lost his drive when his team, No 40, closed due to lack of sponsorship.
Franchitti said at the time that going back to IndyCar was not a choice would make, but has changed his mind following the news that Wheldon is leaving Ganassi.
