IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti loses Nascar drive
IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti has lost his Nascar drive because the owner Chip Ganassi closed down the No 40 team and nearly all the employees have also lost their jobs.
Franchitti, 35, has struggled in his first year after changing over to Nascar and Ganassi explained he was unable to carry on the team without new sponsorship.
Long-time team sponsor Coors Light called it a day at the end of last season and Ganassi wasn't able to find a new source of funds for Dario Franchitti to drive the No 40 Dodge Avenger any more.
However, Chip Ganassi will still be running two other cars in the stock-car racing series. Former Formula One star Juan Pablo Montoya is currently at 20th place in the standings and Reed Sorenson is 31st.
In October of last year Franchitti said he was joining Nascar's elite Sprint Cup but an ankle injury in April caused him to miss out on five races and his best finish of 22nd was a very poor display.
