Yamaha star Valentino Rossi's aiming high in Valencia
Valentino Rossi is aiming to crown his fifth MotoGP World
Championship-winning campaign with a record-equalling 12th victory of
2005 in Valencia on Sunday. The Italian wrapped up the title in
Malaysia in September and matched his own record of 11 wins in a season
with victory in Phillip Island last month.
Valentino Rossi missed the chance to level with Australian Michael
Doohan's 1997 mark in Turkey last week when he was second but the
Yamaha star said: "In Valencia we will really try for the win again."
Valentino Rossi, who has triumphed in Valencia for the last two years,
will be facing some serious competition from young Honda guns Marco
Melandri and Nicky Hayden.
Marco Melandri, who edged the champion in Istanbul, is battling Nicky
Hayden for the runner's-up place in the drivers' standings.
However 26-year-old Valentino Rossi said: "Some new riders have come to
the front of the field over the last few races and I'm sure we'll have
another big battle in Valencia.
"But I'm not old and I hope that I have a few more years at the top yet.
"It's still possible for me to equal Doohan's win record and beat my
own, and this is my aim for the last race. I like ending the season
with a victory. "
