Sete Gibernau breaks collarbone and concussed after Catalunya Grand Prix crash

setegibernau Spanish motorbike rider Sete Gibernau was diagnosed with a broken collarbone and concussion after a crash in the Catalunya Grand Prix.

The Ducati team said he would need surgery and is a doubtful for next week's Dutch Grand Prix.

The Spanish rider was one of six involved in the high-speed crash, including team-mate Loris Capirossi.

Loris Capirossi is being kept under observation overnight and Honda's Marco Melandri was diagnosed with concussion, a badly strained neck and a damaged collarbone.

Ducati released a statement about Sete Gibernau that read: "Surgeons will replace a plate inserted after an earlier accident with a larger plate but they will wait 24 hours before the operation due to his concussion.

"It is too soon to say when he will race again."

To add another twist to the story, Sete Gibernau's ambulance collided with a bus as it arrived at the hospital but fortunately the rider suffered no further injuries.
