Motorbike rider Casey Stoner injures shoulder
World Moto GP champion Casey Stoner has injured his left shoulder during testing in Spain and due to the severity of the problem has flown back to his native Australia for treatment.
Casey Stoner, 22, who rides for Ducati crashed his bike on Wednesday and will now have to miss out on Ducati's World MotoGP title celebrations in Bologna, Italy this weekend.
Casey Stoner is thought to have sustained ligament damage to his shoulder.
Casey Stoner said: "I'm sorry to disappoint all the Ducati fans who have given me their support during the season and who had hoped to see me in Bologna on Sunday."
Casey Stoner won his first MotoGP world title at the Japanese Grand Prix in September, with three races remaining, and in so doing became the second youngest winner.
Casey Stoner added: "Unfortunately things are much worse than I thought yesterday after the crash, and this morning we decided that the best thing to do was to go back to Australia as soon as possible for further checks with the doctor who operated on my right shoulder a couple of years ago."
