Italian motorcyclist Valentino Rossi wins at Spanish MotoGP
Italian Yamaha motorbike racer Valentino Rossi claimed his first victory this year and disappointed the Spanish fans when he defeated Spaniard Dani Pedrosa at the Spanish MotoGP.
Valentino Rossi started from second place but he edged past Dani Pedrosa on the opening lap and kept in the lead to win the race. Valentino Rossi finished 1.2 seconds ahead of Honda's Pedrosa and Yamaha team-mate American motorcyclist Colin Edwards.
Five-time world champion Valentino Rossi now progresses to the top of the standings after Casey Stoner, winner in Qatar two weeks ago was fifth on his Ducati.
Valentino Rossi won the 85th victory of his career and his first win since Malaysia in September 2006.
"It was a great, great race for us," Valentino Rossi is reported to have said, and he added: "The tyres worked very well, I went in front from the start and it was a perfect race for us."
