Tandragee 100 abandoned when rider John Donnan dies
The Northern Ireland Tandragee 100 motorcycling meeting had to be abandoned on Saturday after one of the contestants was killed. Ardglass rider John Donnan crashed at the chicane near the start-finish area when he was trying to avoid another competitor.
John Donnan's motorbike was thrown flying into the nearby paddock area by the force of the accident and just missed hitting a number of team officials and spectators at the event.
John Donnan, 42,was a former Irish Superbike Champion who had taken part in motorcycling for 20 years and he also ran his own road racing team for a number of seasons.
Clerk of the Tandragee course Bobby Edgar explained that they had to abandon the meeting out of respect and he said: "The North Armagh Motorcycling Club extend its sympathy to John's family. We have done a lot of work on the circuit to improve safety but it's a dangerous sport."
