US Grand Prix's future is still not certain
The future of the US Grand Prix will not be decided on for certain
until after this year's race on 2 July, officials at the Indianapolis
circuit have said.
The Formula One race at the Brickyard last season was reduced to the
level of a farce when 14 cars pulled out due to tyre safety fears.
"We had conversations after last year's event and mutually decided to
address the future after we see how this year year's race goes," a
spokesman explained.
The Indianapolis' contract with Formula One is set to finish after this year's 2 July event.
And Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has already been considering the
possibility of holding a street race in Las Vegas as an alternative to
the event.
The Nevada city actually did hold a Grand Prix at the Caesar's Palace
casino in 1981 and 1982, however, plans for a race on a street track
including the famous Strip in the 1990s had fallen through.
