UK F1 star Lewis Hamilton caught speeding in France
UK Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton has had his driving licence suspended for a month by police because he was caught speeding on a French motorway, and he was also ordered to pay a 600 euro (£430) fine.
Lewis Hamilton, 22, was said to have been driving at 196km/h (122mph) in a Mercedes and near the northern town of Laon on Sunday when it happened. The speed limit on motorways in France is 130km/h (85mph).
Police claimed that Lewis Hamilton was "co-operative and courteous", at the time he was caught and apparently they gave him a lift to his hotel after they took his car off him.
McLaren is the racing team that Lewis Hamilton drives for and a spokesman for the company is reported to have said: "McLaren has been made aware that Lewis was stopped for speeding in France whilst driving in a private capacity.
"We understand he has received a mandatory fine and suspension from driving in France for one month."
