Renault boss Pat Symonds is happy with Formula One changes
Renault technical boss Pat Symonds says that next year's Formula One
rule changes will make his team even stronger. The new rules restrict
engine capacity to 2.4-litre V8s and are intended to help smaller
outfits challenge bigger teams such as world champions Renault.
But Pat Symonds said: "While we had a great car-engine-driver team last season, the engine was a little bit old fashioned.
"It was heavier and had a higher centre of gravity than most so the 2.4-litre V8s have levelled the playing field."
Spain's Fernando Alonso became the youngest champion in Formula One
history when he won the drivers' championship for Renault last season.
And Pat Symonds, who helped Michael Schumacher win back-to-back titles
with Benetton in 1994 and 1995, is determined to see Fernando Alonso
keep the title.
Renault will bring their new car out early in January in a bid to get
up to speed with the engine changes before the season starts in March.
"We had a hard push to the end of the championship this year so it has
been pretty intense, there's a lot going on. We are very busy but it
will all be worthwhile I hope," said Pat Symonds.
"I think as a team we have always come out of change very well, we react to change very well."
