Renault, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes and BMW may sign agreement with Bernie Ecclestone
Renault, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes and BMW look as if they may sign an
agreement with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone, which could end all
talk of a breakaway.
The five big names have threatened to set up a rival competition in
2008 because they want more of the income as well as a bigger say in
the running of Formula One.
But according to German magazine Sport Bild, talks have gone well and the chances of an agreement have increased.
Bernie Ecclestone thinks a deal could be sorted out before the Bahrain GP on 12 March.
The Concorde Agreement, which governs the running of the sport, sets
out how revenues are divided among the teams, Bernie Ecclestone and
governing body FIA from 2008 until 2012.
The four teams of Ferrari, Williams, Midland and Red Bull Racing have
agreed to extend the Formula One commercial deal, with Bernie
Ecclestone giving them a bigger share of revenue in return.
The current agreement is due to finish after the 2007 season.
