Nigel Mansell says Jenson Button needs Grand Prix win
Formula One former world champion Nigel Mansell says that 26-year-old
Jenson Button needs to win his first Grand Prix this year if he is to
fulfil his real potential.
Honda driver Jenson Button has taken part in more than 100 Grands Prix but his best finish so far is second place.
"He needs to get a win under his belt and pretty quickly," said Nigel Mansell.
"As soon as he does that, it will be a springboard and he will be a proven front-runner and winner", he added.
Nigel Mansell, the 1992 world champion, made these remarks at the
launch of his two sons' Formula BMW motor racing careers at the Unipart
headquarters in Cowley, Oxford.
But he also had a word of warning for Jenson Button that he could find
a tough opponent very close to home in his Honda teammate Rubens
Barrichello.
"If (Button does not win early) then he has got problems to address
later in the year because Rubens is not going to pull over for him.
"Rubens is going to do a fantastic job and Rubens is a proven race
winner, but I think it will spur Jenson on for better things", Nigel
Mansell said.
As well as this, Nigel Mansell said he thought Ferrari's Michael
Schumacher would come bouncing back and take an eighth title this year.
