New Formula One team is a maybe
The possibility of an 11th team joining the Formula One grid next
season hangs in the balance after the deadline closed for entries on
Tuesday and governing body the FIA revealed it had received an
application from the Japanese Super Aguri team.
But no decision can be given until the FIA publishes the full entry list until early next month.
Four teams on the grid - BAR, Sauber, Jordan and Minardi - have also
applied to change their names for next season. Sauber will be known as
BMW Sauber F1, Jordan will be renamed Midland F1 and Minardi will
become Squadra Toro Rosso.
BAR, who will be owned by Honda, have yet to say what they want to be called.
The Japanese manufacturer is also set to supply engines and technical
support to the proposed Super Aguri team and former F1 driver Aguri
Suzuki, if approved, will lead the new team.
