Motorsport boss Max Mosley calls for Formula One to go green
President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Max Mosley has called for an overhaul of Formula One for 2011 to make the sport environmentally friendly and to have a "green" public image.
Max Mosley wants to speed up the use of "green" technology in road cars and at the same time for the manufacturers to be able to sell the idea to the public by using the "green" cars in Formula One racing.
FIA boss Max Mosley hopes to link Formula One research and development with that of road cars, and in so doing, to maximise the use of "green" technologies worldwide.
There is a set of proposals for discussion by car manufacturers including the use of smaller capacity turbo-charged engines using energy-storage systems, and also longer-lasting engines and four-wheel drive systems.
The proposals will be discussed fully in June at a meeting of the Formula One Manufacturers' Advisory Commission.
Volkswagen and Ford, along with the road-car manufacturers in Formula One - Fiat (Ferrari), Mercedes (McLaren), BMW, Renault, Toyota and Honda - are all taking part.
