Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim in Honda rescue rumour
There has been a rumour started that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim will be coming to the rescue of the Honda Formula One team, however, the wealthy telecommunications tycoon denies that he is doing this.
Slim is the owner of the firm Telmex as well as a racing team, and he was said to be one of four parties interested in coming to the aid of Honda with financial backing.
However, a statement by the billionaire's company says: "The Telmex Team can confirm that Carlos Slim Helu has not bought the Honda F1 team nor is holding any negotiations to do so. Therefore all information related to this subject has no basis and is completely false."
Honda pulled out of Formula One earlier this month because of the world economic crisis and the Honda team has been desperately hoping a new buyer can be found to keep them going.
Honda team boss Ross Brawn knows that Slim is not going to be their rescuer and was quoted in the Daily Telegraph as saying: "We would love it if it were true but it's pure speculation from various members of the media."
