Lewis Hamilton beaten by Kimi Raikkonen in Shanghai
British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton was beaten by Kimi Raikkonen at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai and McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh said the team were responsible for his loss.
Lewis Hamilton's right rear tyre showed that the rubber had all worn away, but McLaren left him out for another lap, during which time team-mate Fernando Alonso caught up with him.
Martin Whitmarsh said: "In hindsight we left him out a lap too long. His tyres were very worn. It was our decision."
Lewis Hamilton started the race well but his four-second lead was lost in two laps when Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen went past him.
Lewis Hamilton finally lost control of his car in the corner that leads into the pit lane and it slid into the gravel.
With Lewis Hamilton out of the race it left it up to Kimi Raikkonen to win the race by beating Fernando Alonso.
Lewis Hamilton wouldn't blame his team though and he said: "The tyres were finished. These sort of things happen. I'm sorry for the team, but I can still do it, don't worry."
