German Formula One race merger plan
Both German Formula One circuits are thinking of holding one race per season in an attempt to solve financial problems.
Hockenheim currently stages the German Grand Prix and the Nürburgring is the venue for the European Grand Prix.
Hockenheim is believed to be heavily in debt and reports have suggested they could face insolvency in April.
The Nürburgring boasted 350,000 fans in 2002 but crowds have since
become less and less and they have approached F1 supremo Bernie
Ecclestone over the merger plans.
Bernie Ecclestone, who is believed to have been in favour of the idea
to alternate between the two venues, has attempted to take the sport
into new areas, with China, Bahrain and Turkey all being recent
additions.
Hockenheim has a contract to stage the German race until 2008 and
managing director Georg Seiler said: "We are looking in all directions
but will not act over hastily."
