French Toyota driver Olivier Panis retires from Formula One
French Toyota driver Olivier Panis has announced his retirement from Formula One at the end of the year, after 12 years in the sport.
Olivier Panis, whose career highlight was with Ligier when he won the race in Monaco despite heavy rain in 1996, originally had retired in 2004 but he made a comeback as a test driver.
"I know it is time for me to move on and fulfil my wish to race again," said Olivier Panis, whose contract for a year as a test driver is about to end.
"I am looking forward to new racing challenges outside F1," Olivier Panis explained.
Olivier Panis enjoyed a 10-year career in F1, winning in Monaco and also finishing in second place three times and his last race was with Toyota in Japan in 2004.
Toyota have said they are close to an agreement with French racing driver Franck Montagny, who raced for Super Aguri this year, to join them as their official reserve and test driver for next season.
