Formula One may return to Argentina
Formula One racing could make a return to Argentina in the near future
after officials from the province of San Luis contacted Bernie
Ecclestone seeking a date in the 2007 Calendar.
Provincial secretary of sports Eduardo Arce revealed that
governor Alberto Rodriguez Saa had contacted Formula One supremo
Ecclestone with a view to securing a race.
"The Governor would be glad to have Formula One in our Province and he
has already asked for an audience with Ecclestone," Eduardo Arce told
the Clarin newspaper. "We haven't had any replies yet but we're
optimistic."
The 'Rosendo Hernandez' circuit is being updated for the
domestic racing competitions and Eduardo Arce is confident that the
venue will be ideal for Formula One.
"The new circuit for the Formula One would be similar, even though it would suffer some logical modifications," he added.
Formula One was last in Argentina between 1995 and 1998 at
Buenos Aires' 'Oscar Galvez' track, with Michael Schumacher the last
winner.
