Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton is optimistic
English racing driver for McLaren Lewis Hamilton is feeling optimistic and thinks he could win the world championship in his debut season in Formula One.
Lewis Hamilton, 22, has good reason to be this way because he heads the standings 2 points ahead from Fernando Alonso after he finished second to Ferrari's Felipe Massa in the Spanish Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton said: "If I keep scoring points and the team remain competitive and consistent then anything is possible,
"It is my first season so I have to expect some ups and downs but I believe I can stay in a strong position."
Lewis Hamilton has also taken over from Bruce McLaren, who is founder of the McLaren team, as the youngest racing driver ever to lead in the world championship.
But Lewis Hamilton will face his most difficult test so far in his career at the next race, in Monaco in two weeks' time, but undaunted he said: "Monaco has always been a very strong race for me. I think we'll be very strong in Monaco so I'm looking forward to it."
