Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen crashes in Bahrain test
Finnish Formula One rookie driver Heikki Kovalainen walked escaped after a nasty crash that happened in the testing in Bahrain on Tuesday.
Heikki Kovalainen, 25, badly damaged the right side of his car after colliding with a barrier at high speed on the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain.
Fortunately for Heikki Kovalainen, who is the replacement for world champion Fernando Alonso at Renault, was able to walk away from the crashed vehicle without any help.
"It was a pretty big accident," Heikki Kovalainen said and he added: "There was quite a lot of damage to the car but all the safety systems worked perfectly so I am fine."
But not deterred by the harrowing experience, Heikki Kovalainen has vowed to carry on making good on his preparations for his grand prix debut in Melbourne on 18 March and he said: "But the focus now is on working with the team to get the car ready as soon as possible.
"Once it is, I will be 100% concentrated on completing the rest of our work."
