Ferrari sack Nigel Stepney after investigation
Italian racing team Ferrari have sacked their head of performance development Nigel Stepney in the wake of an internal investigation.
Nigel Stepney, who had joined Ferrari as chief mechanic from Benetton in 1992, had recently claimed that Ferrari were waging a "dirty tricks campaign" against him.
Italian police are investigating Nigel Stepney after Ferrari filed a formal complaint with the Modena district attorney, but no charges have been brought against him as yet.
It is rumoured that Ferrari think that Nigel Stepney stole parts and sold those and technical information to other racing teams, but Ferrari have not said anything about this or named any rival teams that he might have been dealing with.
However, on Tuesday their rivals McLaren released a statement that said that one of their staff was implicated in Ferrari's investigation.
Nigel Stepney had become race and test technical manager during Ferrari's period of domination between 2000 and 2004 but he changed over to factory-based job earlier this year after voicing his dissatisfaction over the direction of the team after Michael Schumacher's retired.
