F1 driver Lewis Hamilton cleared of erratic driving charge
Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton has been found not guilty of the alleged erratic driving behind the safety car in the Japanese Grand Prix.
Following complaints by Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton had been the subject of an investigation that focused on his driving at the Japanese event and he was at risk of losing the 10 points for his race victory.
However, the FIA has decided that Lewis Hamilton will not be penalised after an accident where Sebastian Vettel crashed into Mark Webber.
Having his name cleared of this has left Lewis Hamilton close to being the winner of the championship in his debut season, and he holds a 12-point lead over fellow McLaren driver Fernando Alonso into the final two races.
Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber along with their team officials reported to stewards at the Chinese Grand Prix, and they all watched footage of the Japan Grand Prix, including amateur video of the crash, which was shown on the YouTube website.
Afterwards the stewards declared: "The involvement of Lewis Hamilton in this incident has been considered in the light of the evidence given by him, his team manager and in particular all other parties present and no penalty is imposed on him."
