Belgian Grand Prix is out of this year's calendar
The Belgian Grand Prix has been taken off the 2006 calendar because
track modifications could not be finished before its 17 September date.
The FIA, who govern Formula One, said the Belgian National Sporting
Authority decided on this to give it time to finish the improvements.
This change cuts this year's Formula One calendar from 19 to 18 races.
The FIA said it hoped the race, at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit, would be returning next year.
However, Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has suggested that he would
prefer bringing the calendar down to 17 or 18 races for 2007.
The Belgian race had been in trouble since local race organisers filed for bankruptcy in 2005.
Spa-Francorchamps is thought by many to be the finest racing circuit in
the whole world and is a firm favourite of many of the drivers.
