BMW Sauber to keep Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld
BMW Sauber racing team has decided to keep drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld for next year, which means that Fernando Alonso will not be joining them now, as had been speculated.
BMW had shown strong interest in the Spaniard but have just made it public that they intend hanging on to their current drivers instead of taking on anyone new.
BMW has said of the two men that they will be staying with them that together they represent a "strong driver pairing".
BMW Sauber had been thought to be the most likely team to sign Alonso, so their latest decision to keep Heidfeld and Kubica is likely to be talked about at this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix.
Kubica claimed his maiden Grand Prix victory in Canada in June, and he is well thought of as a rising star of motorsport, although Heidfeld is not held in such high regard as yet.
