Adrian Newey predicts a good year for McLaren
Former designer for McLaren Adrian Newey, who left the team in 2005 and is now with Red Bull, thinks Mclaren will be making a comeback this year after a downhill slump in their fortunes.
McLaren had failed to win for the first time in a decade, however, Adrian Newey said, as a word of caution: "They're a tough team, " and he went on to back up his statement by adding: "In Fernando Alonso they have perhaps the most proven driver at the moment given Michael Schumacher's retirement."
Adrian Newey also thinks that Formula One racing's new rules on tyres and engine development have "fallen into their (McLaren's) hands".
When McLaren had Adrian Newey on their team they had won drivers' titles in 1998 and 1999.
Adrian Newey went on to say of McLaren that: "I would imagine that they will be very competitive this year."
