US tennis star Venus Williams beats Serbian Ana Ivanovic
American tennis star Venus Williams has beaten fifth seed Ana Ivanovic in the US Open last 16, with a 6-4 6-2 win ,and although the latter player had three opportunities to break Venus Williams in her opening service game she failed to convert them.
Twelfth seed Venus Williams, 27, then broke Serbian Ana Ivanovic with her first chance she got and won the first set.
The game between Venus Williams and Ana Ivanovic had been expected to be an exciting match but it failed to deliver as Venus Williams broke at the start of the second set and again at 3-1 and it was all over.
In the quarter-finals Venus Williams will next play Jelena Jankovic, who had beaten Sybille Bammer 6-4 4-6 6-1.
Talking about the game Venus Williams said: "Being here all day, I was quite exhausted - I had to drink coffee before the match to stay awake."
Venus Williams could also play against her sister Serena Williams in the semi-finals and if this happens it will be their first meeting since 2005 when they played at Flushing Meadows.
