Tim Henman not seeded for Australian Open
Tennis star and British number one Tim Henman has not been seeded for the Australian Open, which is about to start on Monday.
Tim Henman, the world number 36, missed out by one place, with 35th-ranked Carlos Moya receiving the last seeding.
However, if any seeded players withdraw before the tournament starts,
then Tim Henman would be promoted, but if not, he could face Roger
Federer in the first round.
As would be expected, world number ones Roger Federer and Lindsay Davenport were both named as the top seeds.
World number three Andy Roddick is the men's second seed after Rafael
Nadal's withdrawal and defending champion Serena Williams is seeded 13
after a disrupted 2005.
There are few surprises in the list of the seedings, which was based on the world rankings.
Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, who lost in last year's final, is seeded
third and will find out when the draw is made on Friday whether he
could face a semi-final showdown against either Roger Federer or Andy
Roddick.
Belgian Kim Clijsters, who pulled out of the Sydney International this
week with a hip injury, is the women's second seed and Maria Sharapova,
although having problems with a rib injury, is seeded fourth and heads
a list of nine seeded Russians. India's Sania Mirza is the 32nd seed.
