Tennis star Serena Williams will not play until summer's end
Wimbledon champion Serena Williams has announced she will not be playing again until "the end of the summer".
Serena Williams' decision means she is out of the French Open and Wimbledon.
However, Serena Williams, 24,who has been away from the sport since the Australian Open with a knee injury, denies she is quitting tennis for good.
"I fully intend to be competing in the coming months. My doctors say I should be in a position to be playing again by the end of the summer," Serena Williams said.
Serena Williams has played only four matches since last year's US Open and she has withdrawn from events in Tokyo, Dubai, Charleston and Miami earning large fines as a result.
And Serena Williams has dropped to 106th in the world rankings.
The knee injury has undoubtedly been a factor in her decline but there are other reasons, such as her own fashion label, cosmetic range and her acting career.
And the killing of older sister Yetunde, in September 2003, affected both Serena and Venus Williams very greatly.
But Serena Williams insists she is determined to make a comeback and she said, "I want everyone to know that I will be back on the tennis court".
