Tennis star Serena Williams pulls out due to injury
Top seeded American tennis star Serena Williams was forced to quit in the semi-final at the Stanford Classic leaving Canada's Aleksandra Wozniak to go through.
20-year-old Wozniak, who is world number 85 was already in the lead by a 6-2 3-1 score when Williams had to retire due to a knee problem.
Serena Williams said she first started having problems in her Saturday morning practice, but that it was not in the same area of the left knee where she had had an operation in August 2003.
Williams later said that after she had quit playing she could see that her knee was really swollen and she thought it was because she had been playing a lot of tennis that had made it worse.
Aleksandra Wozniak now goes forward to play against French tennis star Marion Bartoli in the final after she defeated Japan's Ai Sugiyama 6-3 6-3.
