Tennis star Serena Williams aims for top ranking
Tennis star Serena Williams, who is currently ranked in seventh place, is hoping to make it back to the world number one ranking in 2008.
Serena Williams, 26, is performing well and things are looking good for her - she just successfully defended her Australian Open title by defeating Lucie Safarova 6-0 2-6 7-5 at the Hopman Cup in Perth.
The American tennis stars are now in with an excellent chance of qualifying for Friday's final, having already defeated India in their opening tie on Saturday.
Serena Williams is reported to have said: "Of course I want to be number one and I want to win Grand Slams. I wouldn't be out there if I didn't have those goals."
To reach her goal, Serena Williams will have to surpass Justine Henin, who will begin the Australian Open as favourite after winning two of the last four Grand Slams.
But Serena Williams is feeling confident and she said: "I love challenges, there's nothing better than a challenge and I'm best when I am faced with one. Last year I wasn't even in the top 60 and now I'm in the top 10 and just taking it a day at a time."
