Tennis star Roger Federer wins through to Kooyong Classic final
World number one tennis star Roger Federer has qualified for the final of the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne by a 6-3 7-6 victory over Russia's Marat Safin.
A single break was all that Roger Federer needed to take the opening set but Marat Safin broke in game six of the second before serving for the set at 5-3.
However, Roger Federer broke back and then levelled before going on to win the tie-break 7-2.
Roger Federer will face Andy Murray in the final of the exhibition event if the British player defeats Andy Roddick on Friday.
Roger Federer is hoping for his second Kooyong title and he showed a definite improvement in his performance against Radek Stepanek on Wednesday.
"We had some big hitting from the baseline," said Roger Federer.
"With Marat, you're going to get the rhythm because he's such a good ball striker.
"I definitely served better and just tightened up the game a bit. I was really happy," Roger Federer added.
